As Phoebus' fire sinks beyond the horizon
Leaving the world under the mantle of eve
The darkening sky resembles the hearts
Of those who grieve.
The first stars are now rising
Like the morning sun lighting up the dew
The moon - a pale maiden has arisen
And lights up the mews.
Softly the breeze blows
Through streets once thronged at day
The moon and stars brighten the world below
Replacing the light of day.
The inky veil stretched across the sky
Once filled with the fleece of cloudy gown
Is bedecked with the stars and moon
Like the many jewels in a celestial crown.
